Consolidation amongst North American grocery retailers and the emergence of large scale discount superstores has created
both risks and opportunities for suppliers in the food industry. In this environment, traditional retailers are faced with the
challenges of reducing costs, coordinating national locations and continuing to offer variety to their customers. Within the
bakery category, these challenges have resulted in an increasing shift towards frozen products. Kilmer became aware of the
growing opportunities for companies in this category when approached by an experienced food industry entrepreneur who required
our assistance in orchestrating a management buy-in of a Toronto-based bakery.
Give & Go's existing owners wanted their successors to carry on G&G's tradition as an innovative company that emphasized
customer and employee commitment as well as continuous product development and co-development. Management had focussed its
efforts on building a variety of frozen baked goods of which the Two-Bite™ Brownie had achieved great acclaim in Canada.
Kilmer, together with management, structured the buy-in and positioned the company for further growth. |
